Cloud Meadow Gameplay
Enter the town of Cloverton, a small frontier settlement hoping to create a place to call home in new areas of the sky. You play as a freshly graduated agriculture student eager to make his/her first mark in the world by helping Cloverton prosper as its farmer and breeder who shall provide the town with food supplies and other necessities falling under the list of tasks for the job.
The game is full of different NPCs to meet and greet, some of whom will accompany you outside of Cloverton to dungeons where you shall experience the game’s RPG elements and turn-based combat. Outside of it, you are tasked to take care of the farm and all the creatures that shall populate it eventually. The gameplay is thus divided into two major sections of dungeon exploration and farming, but farming is not something forced upon those not interested in this aspect.
Even though Cloud Meadow is strong enough to hold its own for each genre it tackles, naturally, the audience will be drawn towards the adult content that the game has to offer. Collecting creatures to populate the farm with whom to mate is where things really start to get interesting and where players shall discover just how much the adult content is tied to the gameplay instead of being a mere carrot to chase after.
Story
“Play as one of our protagonists, Evan or Eve, as you venture out into the frontier to farm, breed, and battle in order to support a budding and diverse community of monsterfolk!
It is your job to explore and tame uncharted territory, filled with a whole trove of interesting creatures and treasures that lead you to unraveling the mysteries of the world around you!”
– Team Nimbus
Cloud Meadow introduces you to a charming world built in the sky with floating islands to explore. Freshly graduated from an academy, Cloverton is a new home island assigned to your character where you will be working as the town’s new Frontiersman. You are given a farm to take care of, with hopes that there will be a rich harvest for the people to thrive upon. On top of this, you will be setting sail for unfamiliar islands to explore and discover new landmarks to expand the frontier. The people of Cloverton will be expecting much of you, and you as the player in return can expect much from Cloud Meadow’s story!
The story is told through a typical visual novel format with no voice acting nor sound effects to help elevate the experience. Despite the lack of sound design, Cloud Meadow manages to tell a compelling story worth following, though very heavy in the amount of text expected to be read in each scene.
To allow a more personalized story, the playable character can be named and the NPCs will refer to you by the given name rather than using “he/she”.
Farming
Once the introduction chapter is over, you will get to work on your very own tiny little farm which can be improved upon and build into a massive farming complex. Seeds can be planted in soil and nurtured until fully grown at which point they can be harvested for resources to be used for cooking. Prepared foods in return help replenish health and provide other benefits during the dungeon exploration phase, but they can also be used to feed the hungry monsters that live on your farm.
Creating a rich harvest does not have to be a one-man job, you are free to assign monsters from the barn to work in the field, but work them too hard with no reward and they can grow to resent you and run away.
The farming land can be expanded through expensive upgrades via an NPC in Cloverton that will allow you to work on even bigger harvests. The bigger the farming land you have, the more resources you can gather and the more monsters can populate it!
Breeding
Looking after your monsters is just as important as harvesting crops, if not more so. By making sure the monsters’ needs are met, they will live a happy life on the farm as your loyal companion with whom to mate and take into dungeons to battle.
Inside the barn, you will find all your monsters going by their business while waiting for you to come to breed with them. Monsters are able to breed not only with your character but also with each other. They can also be harvested for their sperm that just like the crops, can be used elsewhere in the game.
Through breeding, you and your monsters can get pregnant and thus provide eggs that may hatch into a new monster with attributes based on the mating partners’ own attributes. By mixing and matching different partners, you may find a way to breed strong companions worth taking to battles.
Eggs take time to hatch and cannot be rushed. It may take even weeks of in-game time before getting to enjoy your new companion. There are different shaped and colored eggs that give clue to what type of monster will hatch from it. The gender however will remain a mystery until hatched, unless the monster happens to be genderless or one gender type.
Monsters do not live at the farm forever. They will eventually grow fully mature at which point it is time for them to spread their wings and go make a life of their own elsewhere. The monsters will even graduate and expect you to be there for them when the big day comes, and if you miss it, they will evaluate your love for them and abandon you if feeling neglected. If you do not wish to see your monsters leave, you can request them to stay, but it is crucial that you take care of them every once in a while so that they will have a reason to stick around after graduation.
Battle System
Taking care of the farm and its monsters is only one aspect of Cloud Meadow, the other one is linear dungeon exploration and combat. Choose a party of three characters to accompany you to a dungeon and advance the game’s story by completing them. The potential party members consist of some characters that you have met in Cloverton, as well as monsters in your possession at the farm.
Dungeons hold multiple floors to them with increasing difficulty of enemies to face the further you wander. Some floors even have boss fights waiting at the end. Battles are in turn-based combat which grants the player EXP that can be used to level up party members and make them stronger.
Each character is unique, blessed with abilities that work best for different types of encounters. Some characters are natural damage dealers while others may specialize in protecting teammates or slashing out AOE damage or curses. Who you choose to bring with you to the dungeon can put you at an advantage or disadvantage depending on the enemies that you will be facing.
Hentai
Providing lewd entertainment for both men and women, Cloud Meadow lets you decide which gender to play as, and the adult scenes are thus transformed accordingly. Even when having chosen one gender over the other, H-scenes get unlocked for both the female and male characters throughout the journey and can be viewed from the gallery menu at any time.
As a breeding simulator, much of the adult scenes are focused around the farm creatures that come in many different shapes and sizes. The wonder of Cloud Meadow is to discover them all. Almost every creature has both male and female versions available which provide double the adult content and make sure every player’s sexual preference is met; Straight, lesbian, and gay.
The creatures are also able to mate with each other, but unlike the full-fledged animations seen above and below, these are drawn and animated in tiny pixel sprites. Nonetheless, the amount of options and attention to detail is more than applaudable, to say the least.
Every sexual encounter is registered to the gallery and can be enjoyed during gameplay with a single click of a button. To unlock each scene, one must work their way to populate the farm with all sorts of creatures that can be gained by breeding and hatching eggs, or purchasing from the weekly market at the town square. Not all adult scenes are tied to the breeding aspect of the game, some characters get unlocked upon meeting them for the first time.
Color palette
Sometimes a default color for a character might not be to one’s liking, but no worries, in Cloud Meadow some creatures’ color palettes can be changed! There are a small handful of different options available and these do not require to be separately unlocked before getting a chance to use them.
Even if your favorite creature may not have a color palette available right now, simply know that the developers are working to bring color options to creatures still lacking them, though whether every creature will have the option available eventually is yet to be seen.
